Dr Ana Georgieva DPsych is a Chartered Counselling Psychologist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) which is the official UK regulator set up to protect the public. Ana has over 15 years experience in the social and mental health fields. After qualifying and practicing in Edinburgh UK, Ana has relocated on the Maltese Islands from where she currently practices. She aspires to provide therapy in a respectful, warm-hearted and highly informed way putting the relationship with her clients at the centre of her work.
Ana provides individual psychological therapy and EMDR to adults, as well as clinical supervision to other mental therapists and social care professionals.
Though, her high caliber training and diverse experience allow her to work with a wide range of psychological issues, her professional interest lies in the treatment of Depression, Anxiety and its disorders (phobias, social, panic, health, somatization etc). She also often works with clients experiencing existential dilemmas, difficult adaptation to health or life conditions, relational or family problems, assertiveness and self-esteem, eating disorders, weight management and others.
Ana applies Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Person Centred Therapy (PCT) and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing). She is largely influenced by Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Existential, Positive and Schema psychological schools of thought. Ana chooses to remain registered with the UK HCPC as well as the British Psychological Society (BPS) due to their high professional standards and evidence-based approach to psychological therapy.
Ana is fascinated by the interaction of both psychology and physiology. Hence, her additional qualifications in anatomy, sports and physical conditioning. Ana believes that a person needs to be seen as whole, both body and mind. She promotes healthy thinking and behaviour which enhances wellbeing, health and personal empowerment.
Professional Background
Ana has been involved in the voluntary, public medical and private social and mental health sectors. In the UK, she worked in various charity organisations as well as the National Health Service (NHS). Later, Ana began to practice privately and is now an senior associate with First Psychology Scotland, a large UK based Psychological Therapy centre. Ana's experiences of living abroad have helped her develop respect of diverse cultural issues and welcomes clients from all cultures and walks of life.
